90 JG. "I had never previously had the pleasure of tasting the 1962 Cheval Blanc, and the wine turned out to be an absolute delight. It is a classic vintage of fully mature and perfectly balanced Cheval, without quite the opulence of the 1964, but remarkably similar aromatics and flavors. The bouquet offers up a complex melange of mulberries, red cherries, coffee, menthol, roasted nuts, cigar ash, and cedary wood. On the palate the wine is medium-full, deep and resolved, with excellent focus and balance, a juicy core of fruit, and fine length and grip on the soft and elegant finish. There is little tannin still to be found here, but this wine’s exquisite balance suggests that it will continue cruising along just fine . . . . A classically proportioned and elegant vintage of Cheval." John Gilman, View From the Cellar, Bonus Articles, Nov 2003 |
