91 ST. "Deep red with ruby highlights. Complex, very ripe nose combines blackberry, raspberry, nutmeg smoke, coffee, black tea and game. Broad, lush, spicy and sweet, with an expansive mouth-caressing texture rare for New Zealand pinot noir. Fat with fruit-in fact, a bit soft for Martinborough pinot. But this is wonderfully voluptuous and seamless wine. Finishes with very suave tannins and noteworthy length. Quite different in style from the '04 but at least as good. This maintained its shape and freshness impressively in the recorked (or rescrewcapped) bottle." Vinous, September 2007 |
