Spectrum Wine's Value Pick
Château La Lagune Le Moulin de la Lagune 2009, Haut-Médoc

This selection is inspired by one of our favorite wines from our 2011 En Primeur trip. For Spectrum Wine the 2011 Château La Lagune is in the top 10 wines we tasted while in Bordeaux, a sweet ripe fruit forward wine with a crisp smoothness and chocolate hints that lingered on your mid palate. This 2009 also doesn't disappoint! In an organized tasting at the Spectrum Wine headquarters April 12, 2012 in Irvine California the team opened a bottle of Le Moulin de la Lagune. Given the price point the team was impressed, it was deep ruby in color, warm aromatics on the nose and exhibited crème de cassis and mixed floral including pine and purple flowers, on the palate there were a variety of experiences from the team: black cherry, black currant fruit and plum, raspberry and various points of mineral shined through showing the rocky terrain of the Château. The wine had great balance and a satisfying finish that captured hints of sweet earth and spice. Above average complexity, concentration and depth of flavor that really showed the quality of the vintage and more important the quality commitment from the ownership. While accessible now, the wine needs 2-3 years to become truly expressive of the quality at hand. Has the requisite tannic structure and acidity to easily age and develop nicely over a 5-10 year window. A perfect pairing with red meat to help cut through the tannins.

Price: $335.88/12 bottle OWC.
