The Summer 2016 Auction

Welcome to our 2016 Summer Auction. Traditional summer activities call for wines of all flavors, colors, and varieties and this sale certainly delivers. Our catalog brings to bear a superb selection of bid choices encompassing nearly 6,000 bottles. Wines emanating from 135 different wine producing regions are represented in conjunction with over 800 different producers and vineyards from throughout the world.

With the July 4th (Independence Day) holiday just around the corner, our catalog generously celebrates California. The Envy Cellar stands as one of this auction’s cornerstone collections. This impeccable assemblage delivers countless masterpieces from many of The Golden State’s most collectible and exciting names including Aubert, Harlan, Hundred Acre, Marcassin, Scarecrow, Schrader, Screaming Eagle, Shafer Hillside Select, Sine Qua Non, and many more. Indeed, The Envy Cellar offers the collector the opportunity to lay a cornerstone of California treasure that is certain to engender acute jealousy on the part of friends, relatives, and companions. The collection’s impeccable provenance and well-chosen contents establish a zenith rarely seen on the auction stage. Do not miss out on this superb opportunity.

Our catalog contains no fewer than 40 glorious lots of Schrader including a plethora of large format options. Sine Qua Non is also represented in grand fashion with 79 lots including many large format and rare rosé productions as well as numerous editions of SQN’s legendary Eleven Confessions bottlings. California and her finest wines have never been more popular and currently stand as one of the wine world’s hottest commodities. The highest-quality roster of California wines presented in this catalog represents a veritable treasure trove of our state’s greatest contributions to the world of fine wine.

Not to be outdone, France occupies her typically prominent position as well. Our sale includes an outstanding selection of blue-chip classics and highly regarded collectibles from Bordeaux and Burgundy as well as both the Rhône and Loire Valleys, Champagne, and Alsace.  In conjunction with the July 14th (La Fête Nationale) celebration, be sure to take a close look at The Twisted Pine Collection, The Ogapoge Cellar, The Rose Valley Collection, and The Calistoga Cache, Part V. All bring a singular focus and identity to bear in association with superlative selections of Premier Grand Cru Classé OWC Bordeaux, masterpieces from the venerable Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, and so much more.

The online-only portion of our catalogue is enormously popular with collectors and enthusiasts who are searching for small-quantity and value achiever lots. We would be remiss not to draw your attention to two very special collections which represent significant sections of the online-only portion of the sale. The Half Moon Collection and The Newsletter Cellar are both superb – and immense – collections of impeccably-stored wine which are eminently worthy of bid perusal. The online-only portion of the sale will close at 6:00pm PDT on Thursday, June 30 which gives interested bidders an additional week to examine both the catalog and our web site (www.SpectrumWine.com) in search of hidden bargains and other sundry gems. Of special note for those so inclined are any number of Domaine-direct lots from the renowned CVNE winery in Rioja along with several library verticals and horizontals emanating from the personal collection of Dr. Manfred Prüm (Weingut Joh. Jos. Prüm) in Germany’s Mosel Valley.  Last, but certainly not least, don’t neglect to check out our ongoing no-reserve section which is also available for your bidding pleasure in the online-only section of the catalog. This continues to be a hugely popular forum for bid enthusiasm.

As always, please don’t hesitate to contact any one of our knowledgeable consignment directors and wine specialists should you desire additional information or direction regarding provenance background, storage and acquisition history, or bid strategy. We are all happy to be of service. (Please note too that all auction lots are available for viewing upon scheduling an appointment to do so.) Feel free to submit your bids for all sessions online at www.SpectrumWine.com, by phone, by fax, or via our iPhone and iPad apps.
