94 WA. Laurent's 2006 Vosne-Romanee Les Suchots Vieilles Vignes comes from near Richebourg and – like the corresponding Beaumont – is reported by him to enshrine an ancient selection of pinot fin that was preserved as well as re-propagated by Henri Jayer. It smells of oriental spices, decadent floral perfume, and game. Nut paste and dark chocolate are allied to dark berries on a sumptuously rich palate that however preserves the sense of lift and energy common to so many of the best 2006s, leading to a finish that reverberates with the interchange of floral, mineral, animal, and fruit notes. I would wait a few years before indulging in this only because there is just so much sheer material present, and would anticipate 12-15 years of fascination. Wine Advocate #186, Dec 2009 |
