Lot #6. Palmer 1970

Description: Consists of 1 Half Bottle, 0.375L
Score: 95 JG.
"I have long had a very, very slight preference for the 1966 Palmer over the 1970, but that is not to say that there is anything to complain about with this lovely wine. The 1970 Palmer continues to drink at its absolute apogee, soaring from the glass in a beautiful mélange of mulberries, black cherries, plums, black truffles, a bit of tobacco, lovely soil tones and a sweet topnote of violets. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, plush on the attack and beautifully focused, with a succulent core of fruit, fine, ripe tannins, and excellent length and grip on the complex finish. Where I give the nod to the 1966 over the 1970 is in the slightly more concentrated mid-palate and every so slightly better grip of the ’66. But the 1970 Palmer is without doubt a stunning example of the property. Great juice." John Gilman, View From the Cellar, Jul/Aug 2006, Issue #4
Provenance: The Sea Cliff Cellar
