Lot #78. Michel Gaunoux Pommard 1er Cru 1995

Description: Consists of 1 Bottle, 0.75L
Score: 92+ JG.
"The 1995 Gaunoux Premier Cru is a stellar example of the vintage, and the first 1995 wine I have tasted from the domaine. Clearly this is a superb vintage for Alexandre and Madame Gaunoux, and much to my surprise, the 1995 Premier Cru is every bit as fine as the 1993! The nose is deep and is blossoming beautifully, as it offers up a fine mélange of cherries, pomegranate, woodsmoke, game, coffee and sous bois. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very pure, with a rock solid core of fruit, melting tannins, sound acids and a great underlying expression of terroir on the long, focused and perfectly balanced finish. Stylistically, this reminds me of the great 1995 Roumier wines. A terrific 1995 which is a few years more advanced than the 1993 (see below), and every bit as fine. A terrific wine."
