95 WA. "Looking at the 2002 James Berry Vineyard Bone Rock, it is much more classic in style, with clean blackcurrant and blackberry fruit, licorice, spice and assorted meatiness and charcuterie-like nuances showing on the nose. Full-bodied, voluptuous and layered, with a smoking texture, it, too, has some maturity, and is certainly in its drink window. It finishes clean and dry, with integrated, yet still sweet tannin. Comprised of 88% Syrah and 12% Grenache that spent 18 months in French oak, it’s a knockout Paso Robles Syrah that’s aging gracefully. Starting with the Bone Rock releases, these come from a west-facing, terraced section of James Berry Vineyard. It’s named after the incredible whale bones that were found while creating the terraces." eRobertParker.com #213, Jul 2014 |
