94+ JG. ". . . a step up from the straight Barolo, as it offers up a still quite youthful aromatic mélange of black cherries, game, camphor, road tar, sous bois, fresh oregano and a topnote of dried roses. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very closed today, with a rock solid core of fruit, with a very soil-driven personality, plenty of firm, but ripe tannins, tangy acids and great length and grip on the potentially complex and suave finish. Today, the ’96 Rinaldi Brunate is totally bound up in its structural elements and will need plenty more cellaring before its starts to drink well. But in the fullness of time, this will be a great wine." John Gilman, View From the Cellar, Jul/Aug 2010, Issue #28 |
