92 WA. "Harvested at the end of October and of the Messmers’ harvest for this vintage – and just a day after the corresponding Spatlese – a 2008 Burrweiler Altenforst Rieslaner Auslese offers aromatic intensity of pineapple, mango, banana, and brown spices; a sumptuous, creamy soothing, glyceral-rich, and sweetly tropically-fruited, gaudy palate; and the buoyancy and levity that mark the best wines of its vintage. Outrageous ripeness in any context – not to mention that of vintage 2008 – is allied to sheer elegance. (I struggled without success to find a less nebulous, more concrete way to put the matter.) This will be worth following for two or more decades, but there is no need to forego the pleasure . . ." Wine Advocate #187, Feb 2010 |
