96 RP. ". . . overall the finest vintage since 1990 . . . . The mind-boggling 1995 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Centenaire (500 cases produced) is a candidate for the wine of the vintage. Made from a 5.6 acre parcel of Grenache vines planted in 1889, it boasts a dense, opaque plum color. Initially the wine appears closed aromatically, especially when compared to the cuvee classique, but it blossoms in the glass, offering up sexy aromas of black truffles, blueberries, black raspberries, and kirsch. Explosive richness and an opulent, sumptuous texture come together . . ." Wine Advocate #113, Oct 1997 |
