90 JG. "The ’99 Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle Spätlese from Helmut Dönnhoff is fully mature at age ten and probably will be best drunk up in the next five to seven years, as the rather structural profile of the vintage does not bode well for long-term keeping. The nose is complex and lovely at this point in the wine’s evolution, as it offers up scents of apple, white cherries, wild yeast tones, slate, petrol and an exotic topnote of turmeric. On the palate the wine is medium-full, round and complex, with good depth, lovely freshness for this fast-track vintage and good length on the gentle and refined finish."
