91 VM. "This “best cask” bottling bursts with fragrant and tangy apple, grapefruit, and pineapple. Silken in feel yet animatingly bright and refreshingly juicy, it delivers an invigoratingly tingling, mouthwateringly salt-tinged finish transparent to bittersweetly floral, pungently herbal and smolderingly mineral nuances. If only more German growers – not just in the Rheingau – appreciated that infectious youthful drinkability and abundance of fruit by no means preclude profoundly complex, “minerally” and ageworthy Riesling. (I’m probably underestimating this beauty’s aging potential, but my experience with older wines from Weingut Goldatzel has barely begun.)" Vinous, Sep 2017 |
