95+ JG. "The 1996 Cannubio is a beautiful example of the vintage that is currently quite shut down and in need of several more years bottle age. The reticent and very pure nose offers up a lovely mélange of black cherries, red plums, a very faint whiff of barnyard, camphor, roses, a very complex base of soil tones and a nice touch of balsam boughs in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, strikingly pure and very closed, with a fine core of fruit buried behind its structural elements. The finish is firm and quite reticent, but the future elegance and breed of this wine are very much in evidence even in its adolescence. The tannins are ripe, beautifully-integrated into the base of the wine and quite suave, and when coupled with the wine’s lovely, tangy acidity, promise to make this an extremely vivid and long-lived bottle of Barolo from this classic vintage. A great wine in the making." View From the Cellar, Jul/Aug 2010, Issue #28 |
