Lot #385. Schäfer-Fröhlich Riesling Medium-Dry #17 2008

Description: Consists of 1 Bottle, 0.75L
Region: Germany, Nahe.
Score: 90 WA.
"The Schafer-Frohlich 2008 Riesling halbtrocken [medium-dry] entirely from Bockenau; largely from Felseneck; and sold in the U.S. as the estate’s sole generic is the latest in a long line of superbly successful, virtually-dry generics at this address. The fruit that went into it was superior to that which informed his generic Riesling trocken not by design, explains Frohlich, but because this was the lot that did not ferment down to legal Trockenheit. Apricot, lime, and blueberry laced with savory salinity and a glossy texture combined with invigorating refreshment render this irresistible, and the interplay of fruit, salt, and stones in the finish is refined yet vibrant. This is a sort of amazing value I know of nowhere outside of Germany: an inexpensive bottling from a great site that is also the source of the estate’s top wines, and one that reflects the complexity and distinctively delicious traits that characterize the site in question."
