93 JG. "The old vines in Fonteny can often produce a rather dense style of wine when young, but this has not been the case with this lovely 2008 and 2009 versions chez Roty. The wine offers up an impressive degree of transparency on both the nose and palate, with the bouquet providing lovely aromatic fireworks of plums, black cherries, coffee, grilled meat, fresh herb tones, a very clear base of dark soil tones, woodsmoke and nutty new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and quite plush on the attack, with a sappy core of fruit, impressive soil drive, ripe tannins and superb length and grip on the focused and classy finish. Perhaps these last two vintages are the best young examples of Roty Fontenys I have ever had the pleasure to taste!" John Gilman, View From the Cellar, Bonus Articles, Jun 2012 |
