94+ JG. " Domaine Bart’s parcel of Bonnes-Mares lies directly above that of the Comte de Vogüé on the slope, and consequently, this wine is almost entirely terres blanches. These fine old vines were raised this year in fifty percent new wood in 2010. The superb and utterly classic nose soars from the glass in a blend of black cherries, cassis, a touch of gamebird, a very complex base of soil, woodsmoke, fresh herbs and a deft framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very pure on the attack, with a structured personality, a superb core of sappy fruit, ripe tannins, excellent focus and balance and a very, very long, youthful finish. This had been racked three weeks prior to my visit in preparation for bottling around Easter, and may be even better than it was showing while I was at the domaine- and, believe me, it was not showing badly at all! A superb Bonnes-Mares." John Gilman, View From the Cellar, Jun 2012 |
