98 JG. "The 2015 Romanée-St.-Vivant from Charles van Canneyt is a glorious wine in the making, but this is a bit more reserved out of the blocks than the Clos Vougeot and will need a few more years of bottle age to fully blossom. The bouquet is young and will be kaleidoscopic in its complexity when mature, as it wafts from the glass in a blend of sappy black raspberries and black cherries, raw cocoa, duck, a lovely mix of understated Vosne spice tones, great minerality and a deft framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and shows gorgeous sappy mid-palate depth, with refined, ripe tannins, tangy acids, lovely mineral drive and brilliant backend energy on the perfectly balanced and nascently complex finish. A great wine in the making." John Gilman, View From the Cellar #66, Dec 2016 |
