Lot #20. d'Escot 2008

Description: Consists of 3 Bottles, 0.75L
Score: . JRG.
"Well, our little secret is no more. One of our favorite insider stashes of bargain Bordeaux was just discovered and I'm actually surprised it took this long. I’ve been on the phone this morning trying to pry the last of the 2008 Escot from the winery and they’ve decided to reward your loyalty with the last of the wine they have. While it may not be a big deal on our side of the water, when Decanter proclaims an unknown one of the top buys in Bordeaux – people listen (millions in the UK alone). We’ve been champions of this little Medoc gem since the 2001 vintage and I'm quite happy for them as the review and notoriety insures they will survive for another year – something that is not guaranteed in Bordeaux circa 2011. As many of their neighbors fall into receivership, let’s band together to support one of the good guys in Aquitaine – Château d’Escot and their darling and classic 2008...a wine that belies the notion that Bordeaux is only about the pursuit of corporate profits: My TN from summer 2010 (taken from our original offer below): 'The 2008 Chateau d’Escot is a top bottle of Bordeaux. It smells of soil, fruit and stones with a lovely dark red color that appears to glow in a light-filled room. It is feminine and graceful with the yin/yang presence of a medium weight/low alcohol (but still powerful) wine that could only be produced in the Medoc. While some vintages, like 2005 and 2009, stress impact first, the 2008 d’Escot stresses the magical tightrope of 'cool but confident' - what I’ve come to expect from a truly great claret. The wine is terrific tonight (with 2-3 hours of air) but it will continue to compliment your most worthy culinary creations for another 8-10 years.' The price is up a few dollars since the pre-arrival but I'm not going to complain - sometimes, the little guy does finish first and they should be justly rewarded (if is a reward for their top wine? I wonder what would happen if one of the 1st or 2nd Growths decided to charge less than for their grand vin?) Due to the price/serious/rarity relationship, Escot is always one of the most popular items . . ." Jon Rimmerman, Garagiste.com, Feb 2011
