Lot #2670. Smith Story Rheingau Riesling #02 2014

Description: Consists of 1 Bottle, 0.75L
Region: Germany, Rheingau.
Score: . SSWC.
"100% Tank Fermented; Alc: 12.6%; Case Production: 340. The aromatics are sharp and are loaded with minerals, lean stone fruits, summer herbs and hints of apple skin. The palate shows a nice defined structure that with air, starts to develop in the glass and adds to its length, texture and nervy drive. We are massive fans of off-dry Rieslings and our 2014 is the perfect introduction into the fantastic world of Riesling. This inaugural bottling goes back to Eric [Story]'s wine passion and becoming a German wine expert over his 16-year wine career . . . . The love for German Riesling runs deep in our world. We love the freshness, vibrancy and easy fun drinking of this noble grape. Our 2014 Rheingau Riesling brings all of those qualities along with top notch quality at a great price. The harvest was immediately pressed off, allowed to rest over night and then quickly racked off into stainless steel for a slow and cool fermentation. The wine then sat on its fine lees for a time and then bottled in order to obtain maximum freshness and balance of fruit and terroir expression. Our 2014 Rheingau Riesling is a fun and everyday drinker. Bright aromatics of fleshy stone fruit, hints of cool mint along with a fruity and textural mouth feel which just adds to the vibrant mouthwatering finish. This is a good time wine and can be consumed while just kicking around the house doing chores or, at the dinner table during a feast with friends. Both of our German wines come from vineyards where the soil is dominated by loess and loam. This typically creates very fruity wines with a lively acidity. In some spots quartzite is found in the sub soil, what brings a fine minerality to these wines. The grapes grow on the gentle, south facing slopes of the upper and middle Rheingau."
