96+ JG. "Trying to select a favorite between the 2008 and the 2009 Chambertins from Jean-Louis Trapet is going to be very, very difficult over the coming forty years or so, as both wines are absolutely beautiful examples of this legendary terroir. The 2008 Chambertin is simply a great young wine in the making, as it soars from the glass in a regal mélange of red and black cherries, plums, grilled meat, coffee, a hint of mustard seed, glorious soil tones and a refined framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, pure and full-bodied, with a seamless profile that recalls a Ferrari, superb mid-palate depth, fine-grained tannins, tangy acids and beautiful focus and transparency on the endless and impeccably balanced finish. A magical wine." John Gilman, View From the Cellar, Jan/Feb 2011, Issue #31 |
