93 JG. "This note goes back to 2000, and I include it here as the wine was still very young when tasted then, and should provide plenty of enjoyment for decades to come if found at auction. The 1979 Laville is superb, and one of the more elegant and authoritative examples of this wine that I have come across. The bouquet is still very youthful, with scents of cut grass, petrol, mission figs, lemon, minerals, and beeswax soaring from the glass. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, crisp and very fresh, with just emerging secondary nuances (at age 21!), great focus and intensity, and a long, crisp and complex finish. This wine is fuller and more elegant than the 1978 or 1982 Laville, and should prove to be one of the fine successes for the property in the decade of the 1970s."
