92+ JG. "The 1999 Dauvissat Les Clos is not quite as forward as the Preuses in this vintage, but it too is surprisingly accessible for a young Dauvissat grand cru. When I first tasted this wine upon arrival, I was rather shocked by the seeming lack of structure and focus. The wine was quite fat and ample, but was rather blowsy and wandering on both the nose and palate. However, after about six months in this country, all of the wine’s structural elements began to take shape, and it is now a terrific bottle of wine. The nose is deep, complex and quite fine, offering up notes of apples, lemon peel, a touch of damp grass, flinty minerality, and a whisper of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and quite powerful, with a wide open palate impression, solid acidity, and great length and grip on the complex finish. A very impressive bottle . . ."
