97+ JG. "The 1999 Musigny is a magical bottle of wine. It is as young and deep as the Bonnes-Mares, showing remarkably well for a young Roumier Musigny. The bouquet is deep, complex and still quite primary, delivering a fine potpourri redolent of black cherries, wild strawberries, orange zest, coffee, herbs, minerals, candied rose petals, woodsmoke, and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, magnificently deep, with laser-like focus, loads of sappy fruit at the core, and impeccable balance on the long and moderately tannic finish. This is a great young wine that deserves a full decade to blossom into all its majesty. For the lucky few who can track down any of this exceedingly rare wine, treat it as the cellar treasure par excellence that it is." John Gilman, View From the Cellar, May 2002 |
