93 WA. "A pure expression of Friulano, the 2009 Plus (now labeled as an IGT wine) occupies its own category on the continuum between sweet and dry. Approximately 10% of the grapes from the hilltop (70-year-old) Buttrio-Premariacco vineyards are air-dried for one month and some have been affected by botrytis. This accounts for the wine’s deeply golden color, its luscious creamy density and those sweet endnotes of dried apricot and candied almond. This wine is built to last and will surely gain in complexity as it evolves in the cellar. This is a spectacular effort and a very rare wine on the spectrum of Friuli whites . . . . A rock star winery with international pedigree (proprietors are culinary celebrities Joe and Lidia Bastianich), Bastianich has played an important role in raising the profile of quality Friuli wines around the world. Their offerings are always impeccably made and equal emphasis is placed on both reds and whites." Wine Advocate #210, Dec 2013 |
