93 JG. "The 1996 Truchot Clos de la Roche is quite closed today, but with a bit of coaxing it reveals plenty of quality to come. The nose offers up a fine, red fruity blend of strawberry and raspberry, thyme, woodsmoke, lovely minerality, spice and a bit of other youthful herbal notes. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, racy and primary, with great acids, fine depth in the mid-palate, and a very long, soil-driven and laser-like finish. There is a modest bit of ripe tannin here, but this is clearly a wine that will depend upon its acidity to carry it far into the future. It is a very lovely vintage in the making, but one which will deliver excellent intensity of flavor without a lot of perceptible weight." John Gilman, View From the Cellar, Mar/Apr 2006, Issue #2 |
