92 WA. "The 2014 Proprietary Red Weill A Way Mixed Blacks, from Sonoma Valley, is a blend of Zinfandel, Grenache, Tempranillo, Mataro, Alicante Bouschet, Petite Sirah and a handful of other grapes. This is a wind-swept, cool-climate site that borders the Sonoma Coast AVA, making the ripening somewhat of a challenge. Nevertheless, the wine is deep and rich, with loads of black cherry and black raspberry fruit, good acidity, peppery meatiness and a medium to full-bodied, lush texture . . . . Morgan Twain-Peterson’s 2014 harvest was the earliest in his relatively brief history of winemaking. But I suspect that 2015 was even earlier based on what was happening when I was in California. These are some of the more exciting wines from heritage sites in California, and Peterson has the right philosophy and a go-get-it attitude that is endearing and positive. All of these wines merit serious interest from readers looking for hedonistic, flavor-filled, full-throttle wines that are bursting with personality." Wine Advocate #221, Oct 2015 |
