Lot #503. Pride Mountain Vineyards Sangiovese 2012

Description: Consists of 1 Jennie, 0.5L
Score: 93 RP.
"Pride has also acquitted itself brilliantly with one of the grapes that proved the undoing for a number of California wineries – Sangiovese. The 2012 Sangiovese (only available in 500 ml bottles) came in at 14.4% natural alcohol, and is a blend of 87% Sangiovese and 13% Merlot. Lots of vivid strawberry, black cherry, new saddle leather, tobacco leaf and spice box are present in this complex, medium-bodied, supple, impressively endowed effort. Drink it over the next 4-5 years. Cost: $58.00; 500 ml The current releases of Pride Mountain Vineyards have their regions of origin noted as Napa/Sonoma since their vineyards sit on both sides of the two counties. I tasted with Pride on August 24, which was the Sunday morning when the 6.0-force earthquake hit Napa. Needless to say, we were all shaken, but generally not stirred. Most of the current releases, especially the big reds, are from the 2011 vintage, and Pride Mountain produced some of the finest wines of that . . . year. The current releases of Pride’s big, red wines are 2011s. Stephen Pride told me that their vineyards were not affected by the late October rains . . ." Wine Advocate #215, Oct 2014
