90-93 RP. "One of Tardieu-Laurent’s finest cuvees is always their spectacular Cotes du Rhone Guy Louis. A specialty of Michel Tardieu, who has access to some of the finest cellars and vineyards in southern France, this 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 10% Mourvedre cuvee (from 80, 50, and 30-year old vines respectively) is aged primarily in one-year old oak, with the Syrah spending time in new oak. The deep ruby/purple-colored 2003 exhibits a striking bouquet of kirsch liqueur, melted licorice, truffles, and earth. This full-bodied, flamboyantly-styled, expressive, perfumed Cotes du Rhone coats the palate with no hard edges to be found. With a fleshy mouthfeel (14.5% alcohol), considerable fruit as well as substance, low acidity, and ripe tannin..." Wine Advocate #156, Dec 2004 |
