91 JG. "The 1999 Chambolle AC is the finest village wine I have yet tasted from Monsieur Mugnier. The nose is very, very deep and sappy, with great depth of fruit offering up notes of black cherries and plums, chocolate, herbs, soil tones, smoke and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied (extremely so for a village wine), deep and packed with pure fruit, with top premier cru weight, ripe round tannins, excellent balance, and great length and grip on the opulent finish. This is much more primary than the 2000, and really should be cellared . . . to allow it to fully emerge. It is a stellar village wine, and should be searched out."
