Lot #175. Domaine Georges Roumier Bonnes-Mares 1985

Description: Consists of 1 Bottle, 0.75L
Score: 97 JG.
"This bottle of Roumier ’85 Bonnes-Mares is even better than the 1985 Roumier Amoureuses paired up with it. The bouquet was equally tight and reticent out of the blocks, but eventually exploded from the glass in a blaze of candied red and black cherries, intriguing balsam tones, woodsmoke, venison, strong soil tones, mustard seed, sous bois, violets and a judicious framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied and flawlessly balanced, with great elegance coupled to very impressive power. The finish is long, modestly tannic, and nicely livened up by tangy acidity. In a flight with not only the ’85 Amoureses, but also Henri Jayer’s ’85 Cros Parantoux and ’85 Echézeaux, this wine easily vied for top honors with the Cros Parantoux! It is a great, great, great wine that still demands a few more years in the cellar to reach its apogee." John Gilman, View From the Cellar, Bonus Articles, May 2002
