91 JG. "The 1956 Viña Albina Gran Reserva is a beautiful example of the vintage that retains plenty of life to it, despite its having been at its plateau of maturity for probably three decades at this point in its evolution. The deep, complex and tertiary nose offers up a lovely mélange of dried herbs, a touch of plum, raw cocoa, spices, nutskin and a rather delicate topnote of cigar smoke. On the palate the wine is deep, medium-full and beautifully focused, with still a bit of mid-palate depth, melting tannins, sound acids and very good length and grip on the complex and classy finish. A gorgeously perfumed middleweight with years of life still ahead of it." John Gilman, View From the Cellar, Sep/Oct 2011, Issue #35 |
