92+ JG. "The 2018 Côte de Brouilly “Cuvée Mélanie” from Daniel Bouland comes in listed at 13.5 percent octane and offers up a beautifully deep and complex bouquet of black cherries, sweet dark berries, bonfire, gamebird, a touch of fresh herbs, a lovely base of stony soil tones and a fine note of currant leaf in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and sappy at the core, with excellent focus and balance, modest tannins and a long, tangy and complex finish that closes with excellent grip and lift. This is certainly approachable today, but this is a wine that is going to age very long and gracefully and I would be tempted to tuck it away in the cellar and really let it blossom with . . . bottle age!"
