95 JG. "Of all the 1990 red Burgundies that I have tasted in the last year, perhaps only Henri Jayer’s legend in the making Cros Parantoux possesses the same exhilarating level of purity and focus as exhibited in the Dr. Georges Mugneret Clos Vougeot. The bouquet on this wine is truly magnificent, delivering a pristine melange of red cherry, plum, mustard seed, limestone minerality, coffee, whispers of incipient forest floor, and distinct topnote of roses. On the palate the wine is full-bodied and stunningly transparent, with a rock solid core of red fruit, great terroir, firm structure, and great length and grip on the laser-like finish. It is still early days for this wine, but the breathtaking sense of balance and grace of this wine makes it a very gracious dining companion already. As is often the case, this is a very, very Musigny-like Clos Vougeot." John Gilman, View From the Cellar, Jun 2002 |
