"Three branches of the Rothschild family came together in this venture, and though it’s taken more than a decade for their considerable assets to have the kind of impact they might hope to achieve in their wines, their latest releases made our panel sit up and take notice. This rosé, in particular, is the most compelling Champagne we’ve yet tasted from Barons de Rothschild. Its pink-gold color introduces a beautiful, silken wine; if you forget the bubbles, you might think you were drinking an elegant Chambolle. There’s muscle definition to the deep red flavors of plum skin and juicy pomegranate, with some notes of pithy pomelo. Its vibrancy is tamed by sophisticated earthiness, fresh, without a hint of barnyard funk. It’s sexy for all the right reasons." |
