90 NM. "Tasted blind at The Arches in London. This was always one of the best Saint-Julien ‘97s, as proven by being served blind here. It quite tight on the nose . . . but with surprising opulence and glycerine for a modest vintage such as this (more so than the bottle poured at the chateaux.) The palate is medium-bodied, the new oak now subsumed into the fabric of the wine. Blackberries, a hint of sloe and liquorices, very harmonious and focused . . . . Tasted February 2009."
