94 JG. "Jean-Marie Fourrier makes one of the most elegant and refined examples of Combes aux Moines with which I am familiar, and the 2005 is equally brilliant with the two above wines. The bouquet is deep, strikingly pure and elegant, as it explodes from the glass in a blaze of sappy red and black cherries, plummy tones, a bit of licorice, incipient notes of grilled meats, dark chocolate, black minerality and a spicy high end. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and very pure, with lovely soil inflection, a rock solid core of fruit, tangy acids, fine-grained tannins, and outstanding length and grip on the complex and classy finish. Stunning juice that may eventually just edge out the Goulots and Champeaux." John Gilman, View From the Cellar, Nov/Dec 2006, Issue #6 |
