94 JG. "The 2008 Château Calon-Ségur is a superb example of this very classic vintage, and surprisingly, this wine was raised in fully one hundred percent new wood- surprising, as it does not really show much new wood influence at all! The deep, pure and still very youthful bouquet offers up a lovely mix of red and black cherries, tobacco leaf, gravelly soil tones, a touch of curry, smoke, currant leaf and a very nicely discreet base of nutty oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, vivid and tangy, with a superb core, classic, chewy structure, a lovely signature of soil, ripe, firm tannins and outstanding length and grip on the focused and still quite youthful finish."
