100 NM. "Tasted at the 1947 dinner at The Square, London. One of the greatest wines of the 20th century? This is the third time that I have tasted the 1947 and here it effortlessly cruised to many attendees’ wine of the night and remains an astonishing Pomerol. The bouquet has so much vitality and expression after six decades with small red berries, fig, fresh dates and orange blossom that blossom from the glass. It is profound and complex, a bouquet abraded by time to something utterly entrancing. The palate is perfectly balanced with fine tannins and a silky texture. This is a potent wine with vestiges of sweet fruit at its core, kirsch and damson, touches of mint towards the almost port-like finish. It is harmonious from start to finish. Fermented grape juice does not get better than this. Tasted April 2013." Neal Martin, Wine Journal, 2013 |
