94+ RP. ". . . While no Maya was made in 2004, there are 400 cases of the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon, a blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc. It exhibits superb intensity, suggesting this estate, which was largely replanted over the last few years, is on the rebound. The 2004 offers beautiful notes of creme de cassis, minerals, spice box, and cedar, a structured style, and plenty of sweet tannin. Give it 3-4 years of bottle age, and drink it over the following 25 years. As a postscript, I recently had some of Dalla Valle’s Cabernet Sauvignons and Mayas from the early to mid-nineties, and I’m thrilled to report they are aging slowly, but spectacularly well. They provide further proof that the top Napa Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines can age for 25-30 or more years." Robert M. Parker, Jr., Wine Advocate, Dec 2006 |
