98 JD. "The 2014 Kruse Vineyard checks in as 100% Syrah and spent 18 months in French oak. It offers lots of meatiness and butcher shop characteristics as well as tons of blackberry and currants fruits, roasted herbs, and white chocolate aromas and flavors. Big, rich, structured and concentrated, it’s impeccably balanced and never puts a foot wrong. This is another sensational wine from Scott that has the class to drink beautifully today, yet the balance and depth to evolve for a decade or more. Another estate I’ve raved about for years is Viquel and Scott Hawley’s Torrin Vineyard. These are unquestionably big, rich, Paso-styled wines, but they continue to get more and more elegance into their wines, while not sacrificing texture and richness. These latest 2014s are sensational. In addition, while I couldn’t taste the wines, they’ve also started a new Lagom label focused on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay." Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com, Aug 2017 |
