95 JD. "The 2014 The Banshee comes from two sites (Torrin and Kruse Vineyards) and checks in as a blend of 50% Syrah, 26% Mourvèdre and 24% Grenache aged 18 months in 300- and 400-liter puncheons. It offers lots of peppery herbs and earthy dark fruits, full-bodied richness, lots of meatiness, ripe, polished tannin and a great finish. It's a big, balanced, straight up terrific red that's going to drink nicely for over a decade. Another estate I’ve raved about for years is Viquel and Scott Hawley’s Torrin Vineyard. These are unquestionably big, rich, Paso-styled wines, but they continue to get more and more elegance into their wines, while not sacrificing texture and richness. These latest 2014s are sensational. In addition, while I couldn’t taste the wines, they’ve also started a new Lagom label focused on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay." Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com, Aug 2017 |
