"The 1999 Montevetrano is a rock-star wine. Still remarkably fresh and vibrant, the 1999 bursts from the glass with layers of dark berries, grilled herbs, leather and tar. There is a level of richness, depth and sheer power to the fruit here that is simply mind-bending, while the wine's overall sense of balance is breathtaking. Another decade-plus of fine drinking seems like a sure bet for the 1999 Montevetrano. Imparato describes 1999 as a hot vintage in which the harvest began in late August.
