92 JG. "Pomerol is one of the most successful communes in the 1994 vintage, and La Conseillante is clearly one of the stars in the village this year. The wine is just starting to blossom nicely at age seventeen, as it offers up a classy middle-aged nose of raspberries and black cherries, tobacco smoke, lovely soil tones, fresh herbs, a touch of coffee and a nice base of nutty oak. On the palate the wine is fullish, deep and beautifully balanced, with a very suave attack, good mid-palate depth, moderate tannins and very good length and grip on the elegant finish. While this is drinking very well already, I would be inclined to give it another six or seven years of bottle age to really allow the tannins to completely fall away and the velvety palate texture to take center stage. There is certainly nothing “off vintage” about the 1994 La Conseillante." View From the Cellar, Jul/Aug 2011, Issue #34 |
