Lot #243. Chavy Chouet Meursault Genevrieres 2018

Description: Consists of 3 Bottles, 0.75L
Score: 94 NM.
"The 2018 Meursault Genevrières 1er Cru comes from a small parcel planted in 1943 that tends toward millerandé during the growing season. It has a lovely bouquet, very well defined, with scents of hazelnut, white flowers, clementine and quince. The palate is supremely well balanced with a killer line of acidity, precise and mineral-driven. There is impressive detail and concentration on the finish. Outstanding. Chavy-Chouet is a Meursault-based producer that I introduced in last year's report. Again, winemaker Romaric Chavy (plus his hounds) guided me through his 2018s. ‘The 2018 vintage was an early spring that was warm and nice. There was good flowering and from the beginning we had a lot of healthy bunches. It was an easy season without disease pressure: July was hot, same in August, with the right amount of rain when we needed it. It was less warm than 2019 with no hydric stress. We were afraid there would not be so much juice but there was a good yield, which is good for the market. We started picking with 27 August and then over the next ten days. We did no bâtonnage and across the range, used 20% new oak, mainly from the Chassin cooperage with a bit of Stockinger. We want to balance the richness of fruit with freshness without going to extremes.’" Neal Martin, Vinous.com, Oct 2019
