92-95 AG. "A big wine with searing tannins, the 2016 Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru is not going to be ready to drink anytime soon. Not that readers should have that in mind with this powerful Burgundy. Graphite, smoke, leather, licorice, plum and menthol add shades of nuance, but the Clos du Roi first and foremost speaks to structure, as wines from this site usually do. Time in the glass brings out brightness and redder shades of fruit. The late malo here almost certainly contributes to an impression of austerity. The 2016 was done with fully destemmed fruit. I wouldn't touch a bottle before age fifteen, and even that may not be enough." Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com, Jan 2018 |
