97 JG. "The 2008 Charmes-Chambertin from the Rotys is a humbling, profound and beautiful wine. The flat out brilliant nose soars from the glass in a complex and absolutely elegant mélange of red and black cherries, a touch of blood orange, grilled meats, bacon fat, profound soil tones, coffee, fresh herbs and new wood. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very refined on the attack, with amazing mid-palate depth, ripe tannins, tangy acids and amazing intensity of flavor on the beautifully soil-driven and complex finish. An utterly stunning Roty Charmes." John Gilman, View From the Cellar #31, Feb 2011 |
