95+ JG. "The 2001 Bonnes-Mares is a stunning young wine that will be one of the very best vintages of Bonnes-Mares to issue forth from the cellar in years. The nose is deep, pure and explosive, offering up a complex mélange of black cherries, plums, game tones, dark chocolate, herb tones, striking minerality, smoke, vanillin oak and a pungent topnote of violets. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and palate-staining, with stunning focus, great depth at the core, and a very long, tangy and explosive backend. The finish displays layers of tangy fruit, ripe tannins, and outstanding acidity to carry it easily fifty years in the bottle. This is really a dynamite young Bonnes-Mares that will compete favorably with the 1999, 1995 and 1993. Great young juice." John Gilman, View From the Cellar, Nov 2003 |
