99 WA. "Inky purple colored, the nose of the 2016 Materium Cabernet Sauvignon takes off and absolutely soars with incredible blackberry pie, warm blackcurrants, wild blueberries and kirsch scents plus underlying vanilla pod, milk chocolate, espresso and lavender suggestions. The palate is opulently rich and full-bodied, yet it has bold freshness and exquisitely fine-grained tannins supporting layer upon layer of perfumed fruit, finishing very long. 452 cases were made. The fruit for Maybach's Materium has been sourced from the same block of Weitz Vineyard (owned by Turnbull) in Oakville since the beginning. In 2009, fruit from another Turnbull vineyard—Amoenus Vineyard in Calistoga—was used to create this eponymous label under the Maybach name. Both wines are 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, adeptly crafted by local superstar winemaker Thomas Brown, creating evocative expressions of the Napa Valley subregions and vineyards from where they come."
