99 NM. "This is what mature claret is all about, a wine that left many people in the room scrabbling for superlatives. A tawny rim with a deep garnet core. A divine, elegant nose with brilliant definition. Refined: touches of morello cherry, mocha and leather. There is a lovely prickle on the palate. Perfect balance with a remarkable poise. Sweet wild strawberry and cedar with a little dried blood on the finish. A wonderful freshness on the finish. I wonder if the over-ripe, oak-laden, early maturing clarets will leave you itching for another sip as much as this? Along with Leoville-Las Cases, more evidence that 1955 is one of the most overlooked post-war vintage." Neal Martin, Wine Journal, Sep 2004 |
